Hi, I have a question that may be sensitive, but I assure you it is legit. I have a copy of win2kp and I paid a lot of money for it and since winxp is the same kernel and programs and drivers are plentiful I would like to copy it. It is becoming quite scratched. Is this a bad question as I will remove it if it is. Also I will wait for a reply before asking the rest of the question.

Providing you are not intending to distribute and/or sell any copies what you do with your copy in the confines of your home is up to you. What is your question?

when I create a direct copy of this disc (nero)
I have to use a bootdisk to start the disc and the original can be booted from the cd-rom. So I wanted to know how to make this disc bootable, I select bootable data disc from the express menu; it then asks me about a floppy. Kinda lost from here... I assume I haveto encorporate some some of file at the beginning of the disc/compilation. Also if I just make an iso 9660 of the disc. would this allow me to boot from it? If there is a file I must encorporate, can you tell what it is. Thanks for the help btw. And no I certainly do not wish to distribute it.

I am surprised a nero copy disc option is unable to reproduce your CD as is.

When you select the bootable option it is asking you to supply what is know as the boot image which is copied to the first few sectors of your CD from either a boot image file on your hard drive or from a floppy.
The rest of the CD is then written after that.

Are you sure you are using the right disc copy option in NERO?

If you google search for "Making a bootable Windows 2000 CD" you will find there are ways to make your CD bootable if the correct copy option still does not work.

one such place is here

This is a better example as you are using Nero.

A copy of a bootable CD should also be bootable. No special operations to make it bootable should be necessary.

Using Nero 6 "Nero Express" (the version I have, if you want make an exact copy of the cd you are trying to copy, then "make a bootable data disk" is the wrong option to choose. You need to choose the option: copy entire disk.

If at first you don't suceed,
format.
