I got a new computer (windows XP) and took the hard drive out of my old one (windows 98) to put in the new one to transfer the data and when I put the HD back in the old one the computer failed to recognize either my CD-ROM or my CD-RW or my modem. I don't know much about computers but I do know that everything is put back in place correctly and is all hooked up. the drives will open but won't read. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The drives will open that means there is power to them. If they are not recognized I suspect the IDE cable.
Check the cables one more time. Take them out and reseat them to be 200% sure.

Was it the bios that didn't see the cdrom devices or did the bios see them but not windows?
