I have lost the drivers to CD rom on my laptop, and I need to somehow get windows 98 on floppy discs. I know it will take alot of discs but I am unsure how to copy it to a disc. Can someone please help!
Thanks, Yvonne

Easier way is to go to bootdisk.com and download a bootable floppy image for your version of Win98. They have them with CD-ROM support. Great site.
Rule #1: Good Computers don't go down.
Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.

98 had an option to get it on floppy disks. You may be able to find them on ebay. But it'd probably be better to get the cdrom running.
Does the laptop have separate floppy and cdrom drive bays or is it one of those with the swappable drive where you can connect either the floppy or cdrom but not both?
Is the cdrom connected via an external cable or is it mounted in the laptop?

Hello
1. CDROM drivers are only needed for MSDOS, they are incorporated/integrated into W98SE.
2. If you need CDROM drivers go to your CDROM manufacturer's site, (or your computer manufacturer's site if thew computer is a Dell or Compaq or the like) they should have them available for download. Or, there are heaps & heaps of generic CDROM drivers available on the Internet. Look for the 'Oak' type drivers. They were the original developers of the drivers for CDROM (M$ uses them).
3. I have never seen W98 FDs on Ebay. You'll be lucky to find ever them. I was not even aware you could option them from Micro$oft - W95 FDs were available as an optiom from M$.
(See http://www.mdgx.com/ for W9x version specs & releases. Scroll down the left hand menu on Axcel's page to '9x-ME specs')The W98SE .cab files are too large for regular formatted FDs (1.39MB)- you need a special formatting programme to make the FDs formatted to about 1.7MB. The programme is available on the internet - I saw it years ago. Micro$soft deliberately made the W98SE .cab files too large for regular FDs - supposedly to stop piracy. W95 fits OK onto regular FDs.
4. Check Control Panel>System>Device Manager tab >CDROM click '+' to open menu. Highlight the CDROM on the list & click the 'Properties' button on the left hand side at the page bottom. Click the 'Driver' tab, it should state that 'No drivers are required or have been loaded for this device.' There is an option to 'update the driver' using the wizard. You can use the CDROM files from the Internet to update the driver. Just expand the driver file you downloaded, & search for it on your computer with the 'Driver Update' wizard.
