I am upgrading my computer to Win98 because it cannot handle Windows ME. I have the Cd for 98 (and the OEM) but my Cd drive is not working right now. Can anyone help me out?

Could you do the installation on another computer using that hard drive and then pass it on to the one you want?

Slave the hard drive in another computer and copy the Win98 Directory to the hard drive.

Place it back into your computer and run the setup from there.

Or, borrow a CDROM from another computer and follow Mesich’s advice.

If your cdrom drive is not broken, but just not accessible from the floppy you are using, download a win98 floppy from www.bootdisk.com.

Kevin e-mailed me with the following:

How do I slave the hard drive and do that?Would I be able to erase all of the data on the hard drive with windows 95? And what exactly do I copy and how?

Thanks

Kevin

I replied with the following:

It depends on how the other computer is configured.
If on other computer the hard drive is the only thing on that ribbon cable you would place the jumper setting on your hard drive to the slave position and connect it to the same cable as the other hard drive.

You could then format your hard drive, removing Win95 and All Data.

Copy the Win98 directory to the hard drive by using my instructions in
the link below.

COPYCD TO HARD DRIVE

I will post this in the forum so others can give their opinion also. Never hurts to get
other opinions. I also must go to work briefly.

Good Day!
Mesich
