I recently gave my father an IBM Aptiva that I had rescued.
The machine has no real bells and whistles, just the
basics. However, he wants to do some color printing and
is now complaining that he can't get any more than 16
colors. The (basic) video card appears to work properly,
yet the CP won't give him any more options. What have I
overlooked here?

You need the drivers for the video card.

Indeed, identify your graphics card - odds are searching the Aptiva model will yield results
