My primary IDE controller (dual FIFO) isnt working rite
Driver name :ESDI_506.pdr
Date: 4/23/99
Version: Microsoft 4.10.2222
(have windows 98 second edition)

That is the latest driver.
What do you mean by "isnt working rite"? What problem do you have?
What chipset does your motherboard have (intel, VIA, ALi)? You may need updated chipset drivers.
If you want to re-install ESDI_506.pdr, go into Windows Safe Mode. Delete the IDE Controllers from the Windows System Configuration (in control panel). Rename the actual file ESDI_506.pdr to ESDI_506.bak. Get your Win98 CD handy. Reboot and it should ask for the CD to reinstall the IDE controller.

Whaddya mean, your drive won't go period or what? what exactly is 'not working rite?'
EXPLAIN symptoms, can you access the drive in windows, does it boot, what makes you think it's the driver and not the drive itself? Can you access the drive from DOS? A few more details can do wonders. Your request is like going to a store and asking an assistant for 'some food, please'. You must be a little more specific.....

you don't even need to delete the original drivers first. Go control panel, system and device manager. click on primary ide controller and click properties and you have the option underneath to update the driver from there. simple. (I have a feeling there is more to this problem than this.)

I've got the same problem. the drive works fine but in the Device Manager it sais that the driver is not present or not working propely (code 10) etc... I have tried the driver re-install but to no avail. This problem really FxxxS with the shutdown.
