Here I am thinking that I have made backups of all my pictures and things I have saved on my computer, when I put the CD in the drive to make sure it's all there, only about 5 things show up. What am I doing wrong here? I have adaptec easy CD creator, version 4.0. I open it up, click create data CD, then go to the page that lets you click on each individual file and click add, then when all the files you want are showing in the box at the bottom, I click create CD. It supposedly creates the CD. But when I put the CD in the drive to check it out, I go to start/run and browse to the CD drive the CD is in, and it only has like about 5 things I burned to the CD. They are some programs I downloaded and wanted to save the installation files, so I don't have to redownload them again, in the event I have to reformat. Am I perhaps not doing something right when I go to browse to the CD drive? I can't figure out what I'm missing here. I am trying to make a backup copy of my favorites folder, pictures I have saved in My Documents, and also some programs downloaded. The only things that seem to be showing in the preview window when I put the backup CD in the drive and browse to the drive is some, not all, of the downloaded programs. Can someone help me here? If you need more information than I've supplied, let me know. This is getting kind of frustrating. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Question (or clarification):
Why are you trying to access your CD in this way:"I go to start/run and browse to the CD drive the CD is in..."?????? That just seems like a very unusual method to me, and I suspect is the nub of your problem... you are "Browsing" to the location (path), but then you would still have to type in a Run COMMAND, no????

If your burner is like mine, it will automatically write-protect the CD after the first recording is completed. Not familiar with your software, but you must have a way to remove the write protect and continue recording. At least that's how mine works.

The usual way is to double click on "my computer" & then double clicking on the cd icon. Should be as simple as that. Also...could it be possible you are only seeing folders & then opening these folders (via just above) may reveal the other files? (If you've put your files into folders) (just a wild guess)

from the desktop
My computer, right click,
choose explore
click on your cdrom/burner
your files should be visible in the right hand pane

Ok, I think that is the problem. I opened windows explored and then inserted the CD, and there were all the files on the right side. So now, how do I add these files back to My Documents, in the event I have to reformat? Drag and drop them from the CD drive?

Probably the safest way is to highlight them and use Copy / Paste to put them back in.

Did you know there are keys which allow you to block copy or select various files in one go? If not post back and I, or someone else, will explain.

No, I don't know about those keys, Derek, so if you could post back with how to do that, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for all the help, guys!

The keys Derek is talking about are:

1 - to select a successive block of files, select (highlight) any "first" file, press&hold the Shift key, highlight the "end" file, thus all files between the first selection and the end selection will be "selected", ready to copy/cut/or drag 'n drop.

2 - to selectively choose a number of files, press&hold the Ctrl key, select individual files in any order, and each will stay highlighted, ready to cut/copy or drag 'n drop.

3 - to select All files in a folder, Ctrl-A

For example, let's say you have files in a folder, numbered #1 to #10. To select #3-#7: highlight #3, press&hold the Shift key, select #7, and all files between #3 and #7 are now "block-selected". On the other hand, to select the even-numbered files, for instance, you would press&hold the Ctrl key, select each even-numbered file (in any order) and each file will become part of a "block-selection".

3 - To select all 10 files, Ctrl-A (make sure the right pane is in "focus" by clicking any blank area of the right pane for this last one).

4 - You can even "marquee"Email me, and I will send you screenshots of each method, step-by-step.
