I have two hard drives one has win 98 se installed the other is just blank and I have a cd rom I had an old cd rom so I removed and hooked another one up made sure the jumpers were on the same as the old one and the computer isnt working now how do I have to set up the cables and jumpers on the drives
ide 1
ide 2what needs to be master or slave and secondary and primary I'm stuck could anyone help me thanks in advance

what hard drive you have?
normally a hard driver has 3 jumpers1. cable select
2. master
3. slaveyou have to look at your cable also, and see if you master for master or slave for slave
Best bet is do 1. cable select

ide 1:
win 98 hd MASTER
blank hd Slaveide 2:
CDrom1 Master
CDrom2 Slave(if you have one)
Unplug all drives and reconnect them carefully.

Make sure that the cabling is correct. It's easy to install a cable in upside down. If the light on a drive stays on all the time, that's usually the problem.

Okay thank you everyone for trying but I've done all that stuff and I know the hard drive has windows on it and the cables are connected properly but the computer still isnt booting or anything the screen stays blank I just got the computer and I dont understand its built from the guy I know and he doesnt know whats going on cause the only thing we have done to it since its stopped working is changed out cd rom for a faster one and then boom it just stopped wow like that
PLEASE HELP WITH ANY OTHER ADVICE

Try disconnecting everything but the drive that has Windows on it and see if it will boot. If so, connect the other items, one at a time, and reboot after each. The problem item will show itself.
