hello...
i've a Compact Prolinea 575 with Windows 95. My problem is with the floppy disk drive, in the device manager, it shows an exclaimation mark on the floppy drive controller. Presently the floppy disk controller installed is a standard floppy disk controller, i've tried reinstall it to Compact floppy disk controller but when restarted the PC, the device manager shows again as standard floppy disk controller and again the exclaimation mark is still shown to it.
I've tested the floppy disk drive and is definitely not the hardware problem. Nevertheless, when i used it in Windows, the PC hangs when try to access the files in floppy disk. I've tried to reintall Windows95 over it but an error message states "Error SU-0018: Setup could not create files on your startup drive and cannot set up windows. There may be too many files in the root directory of your startup drive, or your startup drive letter may have been remapped by network or compression software.". As a result, i cannot proceed with the setup.
How can i solve this problem??? Please help.
Thank you.

Try:
Control Panel > System > Device Manager (tab) > Disk Drives > Floppy > Remove.
Reboot, let WIN "Find New Device", if you have a better Driver, point it at that, otherwise let WIN load the "Best" Driver it can find.

I had the same problem several weeks ago only it was happening with the CD Rom. The suggestion that Mike recommended worked for me. Good Luck.

mike,
i've tried your way, unfortunately it doesn't work. I think my WIN95 is corrupted, but i've no way of reinstalling it as i've explained in the earlier message.
Is there any other way to solve it before i've to choose to format it?
Wong
