I am trying to delete some backup files that are on my hard drive. A backup program that I tried set up a backup as D:\C. I've tried deleting it, but it says the files cannot be found, yet it shows that it's using up a lot of hard drive space. I've tried deleting by bypassing the recycle bin, but that makes no difference. My computer is running really slow and I need to be able to backup to my CD-RW drive. I have a new program from ITS, but can't figure out how to use it. Any help out there?

Try using the Find box by hitting the Windows key and the letter f. Go to the Advanced tab and put in All Files and Folders, along with choosing At least and 100000 kb (a file greater than 100mb). You should not get too many files of that size. (If in fact it is that great in size)
Or go to hitting the Windows key again and then hit the letter e. (to get Explorer) Then click on the View tab, Folder Options and View tab, under Hidden File, click on Show all files and then run your find files again.
When and if you find the mentioned Back-up file, try deleting it from there also by-passing the Recycle bin. HTH

Bryan, Thanks for the advice. I did find a backup on my system, in the C drive that was taking up more space than Windows and I was able to delete that. But the backup on the D drive is still there. I did a search for it and none of the files are that large by themselves, but it annoys me that it's there if I don't need it. It still won't let me delete it. It says it may be write protected. When I check properties on the D drive, it shows 0 bytes, but each individual file has a few mgs here and there, but there are a lot of them. Any advice on what to do with them? The only real drives I have are the a, c, and m drives.
Thanks

I am sorry that this problem persists on your PC. If were able to see it for myself I am confident that I could help but this is unlikely (unless you are in northeastern Massachusetts.)
When you open Explorer, does it show the D: drive at all? from your wording it sounds like the small files on your D: drive may be the restore to factory settings file that came with your original purchase.
And the back up you deleted from your C: drive...I hope it was the back up that you created intentionally.

The backup I deleted was put there by me intentionally. I subsequently backed it up to a CD-RW disk, so I didn't need it anymore. (This was the Windows Backup that wouldn't back up to a disk, only tape.)The D drive does show up on explorer. It wasn't there before and is not from my original purchase. The first couple of files show a file that looks like a piece of paper with a large "A" on it with red, white and blue background. I don't know what kind of file that is. I appreciate all the help. btw, I live in Ohio, waaaayyy far away from MA.

If there is nothing else on your D: drive or nothing worth keeping then you could fdisk the D: drive to remove everything on it.
If this is the case post a new subject such as "How do I fdisk D: drive" to a new message on this board. I say this because I have never done it and someone else will give you good instructions
