The computer I have HAD windows 98 on it and I formated my C: drive so that I may reinstall it. I changed the first boot to CD-ROM and popped in the Win98 Installation CD. It started reading the CD (heard it spinning n such) and it showed it was reading for about 30 seconds...then all of the sudden it says invalid system disk bla bla bla (that old nutshell). Now I dont have a boot up floppy. Can anyone tell me why my computer isnt starting the WIn98 setup screen?

The MS win98FE CD is not bootable. You will have to boot from a win98 startup floppy and then run `setup' on the CD. Type:
X:\setup
Where is X: is your cdrom drive's address

wat machine are you running now ? u can make a win boot disk on the the machine you are using now.....

If you aren't on a win98 machine. You can download a file that will create a bootable floppy with cdrom support from www.bootdisk.com.

Hi y'all,
Jared,
In addition to all the excellent posts above..To install win 98 on a clean formatted disk, you need a couple of things..
1. A win98 bootdisk...( www.bootdisk.com ) This download will be an executable file..You will have to copy the exe file to your drive and execute it..It will ask to insert a floppy..It will then copy, the start up files to your floppy...This will be bootable..This is just one way to obtain a bootable floppy..There are other ways..You will need a bootable win98 floppy...2. You will need a win 98 install windows disk.
3. NOTES:
4. NOTE: If you have a burner and cdrom, the burner should be the Master on the Secondary IDE, with the cdrom set as Slave..
5. NOTE: If you have two H/D's, they should be set as Master and Slave on the Primary IDE..
6. NOTE: If you just have one cdrom, it should be Master on the Secondary IDE..
7. NOTE: If you have just one H/D, it should be set as Master on the Primary IDE..8. Boot with the floppy, This will load the drivers for your cdrom, and leave you at the A:prompt.. Note the letter assigned to your virtual drive..If it is D:, your Master burner or cdrom will be E:
9. At the A: prompt, ( if you have just a cdrom ) insert your win98 disk..and type E:\, (click enter) and then at the E:\ prompt, type Setup, and (click enter)...(If you have a burner and a cdrom,) insert your win98 disk in the burner,) and type E:\, (click enter)and then at the E:\ prompt, type Setup, and (click enter)...10. At this point your win98 disk should be loading windows...
Hope this helps
