Need help: exe files can't run

All,
I need help over here. I'm not sure how it starts but apparently all of my program files which are ".exe" extension can't run. When I run any files including winword or even explorer etc. it keeps popping up a dialog box saying "windos.exe not found". Hence I couldn't run any programs with .exe extension.

When I open My Computer, then View then Option, File Types, it seems that "Application" registered file types has the following properties:

File type details:

Extension: EXE DL
Content type (MIME): application/x-msdownload
Opens with: WINDOS

Another thing, there are three boxes on the right hand side: New Type , Remove, Edit of which only New Type is available to click. The rest of the boxes is DISABLED. So, I couldn't edit the file type properties. What should I do to modify these properties or what should I do next?. It seems like it's protected somehow. Any inputs? Really appreciate any responses.

Mind is running on Win95.

Thanks.

Hi,

Try to locate the files32.vxd in your windows\system directory. If you find this file you're infected with the happy99 virus. If you are infected, i'll send you a fix for it. Do NOT delete files32.vxd otherwise your PC won't work anymore.

Rene,
I've got the following files in my windows/system directory:
1) Allmou32.vxd
2) Mcscan32.vxd
3) Vmm32.vxd
Are these files infected?

Thanks for the prompt response.

I can't get my .exe files to run either.
Same problem as rosman.
When I open My Computer, then View then Option, File Types, it seems that "Application" registered file types has the following properties:

File type details:

Extension: EXE
Content type (MIME): application/x-msdownload
Opens with: REQTKMNNYVC

Same thing with the boxes...all are disable except New Type.
I went to find files, and I did not find the files32.vxd
Please respond either via e-mail, or via reply to this forum.
Thanks a bunch.
