I just formatted a puter. I installed dos. Now I am trying to install the cd driver to install win95. I mad a directory in dos, copied the file to there then edited the config.sys then autoexec. After I reboot it looks like it is working then I get an error that says "Warning cdrom is set as slave but no master. Or something very similair. ANy ideas on how to fix this??

If the cdrom is the only device on the cable then you need to set the jumper on the back of the drive to Master (M) instead of Slave (S).

Strange error message!
The cdrom drive should work fine as slave. But I agree with trying it as master.Maybe you should post the `exact' error message.

Okay the error message I get is WARNING! cdrom drive is configured as a slave but no master drive is found
When I continue to change the autoexec and config it never actually lets me get to the cd drive. This is my sis in law puter which I just fixed last week and now I cant get the cd drive fixed.
I deleted the entries I made in the auto exec file and config. I have the cd driver on the c drive any suggestions on how to go about getting the cd drive working. When I deleted the config and autoexec entries I made the warnings go away

I guess you have your IDE CD-ROM Drive set as SLAVE device in the Secondary IDE Channel(Connector) of the Motherboard IDE channels and you have to change it to MASTER by changing its CD-ROM Jumper settings by placing Jumper Block on to the Pins designated for MASTER and/or connecting to the End Connector of the IDE cable

I concur with Hank. The CD-ROM drive should work happily as a slave drive if it is jumpered that way even if no master is equipped.
Check your config.sys and autoexec.bat for the correct syntax.
At the most basic level your autoexec.bat should have an entry for the CD-ROM that looks like this:
mscdex.exe /d:mscd001 /vYou config.sys should have an entry for the CD-ROM that looks like this:
device=oakcdrom\oakcdrom.sys /d:mscd001NOTE-the identity mscd001 must be the same in both files.
Also make sure that your BIOS setting are set correctly to NONE for those IDE devices that are not equipped and set to AUTO for those that are.
Leaving them all to AUTO will also work. However the BIOS may spend unnnecessary time trying to find non existent hardware on the unequipped IDE ports.
I hope this helps and I have not confused the issue.
