Aloha from Hawaii,

I'm using a 266MHz Quantex IBM compatible PC with 64MB RAM and Windows 95 version 4.00.950 B. I get this message using Netscape Communicator 4.5 (browser) and the buggy OS when I go to check a second E-mail address on my POP server:

Windows
A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0018263 in VXD IFSMGR (01) + 000036DF.
The current application will be terminated.

Earlier versions of Communicator did not result in this error.

I have the same problems and also msvcrt.dll error messages. The answers ive found on the net so far:

corrupted swap file: defrag harddrive

to many .tmp files in windows/temp dir - delete all those not created in current win session..

corrupted user profile - create a new one and when it works like u want it and no errors - delete the old one..

corrupted cashe - delete the cashe folder in communicator/users/username/

also make sure you have newest kernal32.dll

If you come up with any others please let me know! Ive tried all these and although things are better im still not sure shes fixed..

This may fix all of your problems. It didn't for mine but it might for yours. Go to Start\settings\controlpanel\system\performance\and then graphics. then put the little arrow thingy to about 50% and that might resolve the problem. Hope it works. Believe me! I've been getting these messages when I play my games alllll the time. Please someone help me and the others!!! PLEAAAASSSSSSSEEEE!!!!!!!! THANKYOU!

I get a fatal exception OE message at 0028:c0004E80 in VXD VM(01)+ 00003E80 - every time I change the read-ahead settings on my hard drive and try to print a large graphic on my Canon BJ5000 color ink-jet printer. I imagine that the problem is one associated with memory, so the above advice about defragging is good -- check your memory settings-- most of the people in this list are doing memory-intensive things (like playing games, running a screensaver, etc)...

Man... I, too, receive a similar error: 0e at 0028:c000aba9 in VXD VMM(01) + 0000099c,

I've been reading a bunch of messages about this problem, on this board and others, and I've come to the conclusion that this problem is a software issue, perhaps a bug. I can't seem to detect a common thread in hardware. I've got a K6-200, 64meg SDRAM, a fireball 3.2gig HD, a ATAPI CDRom, a Mag Innovision Monitor, a Diamond Monster 3D card, a Matrox Millenium 2D card, a Diamond Monster MX300 Sound Card, a Canon LBP460 printer, and an STB TV Card.

Are there similarities? Sometimes. I've seen several K6 complaints, but then I've seen a few Intel complaints, too... I've heard about driver swappage, which I've tried, and BIOS deactivation, which I've tried, and registry fixing, which I've tried, and reinstallation, which I've tried... When I look at the Device Manager settings, I see that the address 0011 - 003f are being used by an "unknown device". Is this the problem? 0028 falls right in the middle of those numbers. Who knows. I certainly don't. But I'm really pissed off and frustrated, and I figure out the problem, no matter what I do. I've become so jaded against Microsoft, that I really hope a bomb falls on Seattle before the millenium.

Perhaps if we all list our hardware, we can find something I'm missing... I read in one message somewhere that a person has a Mag Innovision monitor, which I have, but I've tried several Mag driver, old and new... maybe I'll switch it to a Plug and Play driver. Also, perhaps if I change the graphics performance settings in the System control panel it will do something. I've read about TSRs possibly being the cause, but still, I can't imagine that so many of us are having the exact same problem and that we're having the problem caused by different TSRs. Someone mentioned having figured out that NAV was the cause, but I didn't have NAV on my system until recently, but I had the problem happening just the same.

Do I sound like a whiner? DAMN STRAIGHT!

If anyone figures ANYTHING out, dammit, let me know. I'm getting ready to throw my friggin' monitor against the wall. My wife is so incredibly sick of me swearing violently at my computer everytime it crashes, that she's about to purchase a muzzle for me. Grrr.

Jeff

I was getting this error while I was using MS Word. I was also getting an 'Invalid page fault occuring in the kernal.dll'.

The way I got rid of these bloody errors was down loading a whole lot of service packs/patches from the MS web page.

Things I down loaded were:
The latest IE; Win95 patch; MS office patch and a kernal32.dll update. I think that was it.

I don't know if it will help, but it worked for me.

the vxd and ifsmgr errors are related to software...check your drivers and make sure they are valid. I solved the VxD IFMSGR fatal exeption by using plug and play monitor drivers instead of the "unknown" one that was in device manager. hope this helps.

Netscape gave me a similar problem to Randy Rambo (original message). Blue screen hit when I tried to typedown in the list of newsgroups. Downloading latest Kernel32.dll from Microsoft seems to have cured it.

I went to the netscape site and found at the bottom of this page
http://help.netscape.com/filelib.html
that some versions of msvcrt40 were causing problems and so they were offering an older more compatible version. Since I never had this until I upgraded to the never forms of netscape, I think this may have something to do with it. Via a service pack I already had the new Kernel32 file long ago.

Go to Netscape, then click on download, and then click on
Download
in the left frame. There will be a pop-up that
sends you
to a page that tells you to remove this directory
and it's
contents; the FullSoft directory is what you
remove it says.

C:\Program
Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\FullSoft

Also it said that a new version of msvcrt40 (somthing like that) but it ends in "40.dll" caused problems and needed an older more compatible version for win95. I did that first but it didnt work. Since I deleted the "FullSoft" directory from the above shown path, I haven't had the error again.

I receive the fatal exception OE message every time I try to transmit an email message using the SEND function. If I wait and send the messages at a later time, they usually go through okay without an error message. I have also had the problem of the mouse freezing up and the system crashing. I have tried the basic troubleshooting methods like clearing the temporary files, defragmenting files, running a CHKSDK, checking virtual memory settings & video settings without results. I have Windows 95 and am using Netscape Communicator 4.5. HELP ME PLEASE!!

Yeah, these problems are all too familiar for me. I receive the same message:

Fatal exception 0E at 0028:C001B787 in VXD IFSMGR(01) + 000036DF

And I've been getting it more and more frequently. It seems whenever I touch something, anything, when I'm on Internet Explorer, such as a link, button, taskbar, anything, the "Blue Screen of Death" for Win95 comes up. It's really getting on my nerves. I tried the Microsoft site, but they want freakin $35 dollars just to hear my problem, and that's money I don't have.

As John Lennon put it,
"Help!"

First thing is to search here http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&lng=eng&sa=per
and mark the Free Text query try and find your specific problem. I think the hint here is the IFSMGR. As I had the 0028: as well but mine was SYMEvent(02) which when I found the exact match was telling me an older Symantec program such as Norton Anti Virus is installed (mine was actually Norton Uninstall) and when I updated the patch and online download my problem ceased.
I also had some luck installing the VXD FIX from http://www.mcs.net/~revolutn/win98_vxd_fix.htm

This fix will help the random fatal errors however if a conflict still exists as it did on mine you will still have to find that problem. A fix for W95 and another one for
W98.
Hope this helps -- Microsoft is not very friendly on the searches so try different things. Mine was "ERR Msg: A Fatal Exception 0E Has Occurred at 0028:" (without quotations) So try your exact error and select Free text query and then other combinations if required. Good Luck :-)

Same thing is happening to me. We are "fixing" it by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL all at

happening? And what will it do to my computer?

Fixed my Fatal error 0E with vxd ifsmgr(01) by changing some settings in Networks of Control Panel:

In properties of TCP/IP for DUN: unticked the file & printer sharing... under the Bindings tab.

Also: removed the IPX protocol for DUN.

So far it works anyway. My problem occurred after installing IE5, then Nav 4.7.

Wish we could take out frustrations with time wasting problems like this on Microsoft rather than the wife/girlfriend/tart or kids/dog/goat.

We started getting error after installing AOL version 5.0 which includes IE 5.0 (AOL version. Then my client uninstalled or "not sure" but put back on AOL 4.0. We are in the process of finding a cure. Our error message happens each time we access Control Panel and it is:

0028:c02817f1 in VXD IFSMGR(04))0000d4F1. I suspect we have a conflict within Internet Explorer. AS AOL version 4.0 was a lessor version as we had done a Yk2 update on Internet Explorer using the patch. I will look at the date of the IFSMGR.vxd file and compare it with other vxd file dates.
