Specs: windows 98
hp doesn't list the deskjet 5740 on their site any more
I am running windows 98 so I can use some old programs
but I cannot print

Did they ever have it?? I kind of doubt it. The printer looks newish.

See what this is maybe.

I'd at least try the W2K and see if it loads.

HP discontinued Windows 9x support several years ago and due to Licensing stopped providing drivers.

the printer was compatible with Win98 (at least at some time). Finding the driver, however, could be problematic, since most sites that offer a link may also load up spyware/malware on your system. Drivers Guide would be your best bet to find it without "extras" attached:

From the results, it looks to be the file here:

Don't be surprised if you have to "jump through some hoops" to get it (read ads, decline "system scans", etc). I downloaded the file and scanned it with Avast and Malwarebytes---it came up clean on both...
