ndis2 problem

After reformating hard drive and loading Windows 98 sucessfully and also sucessfully installing internal modem with latest drive I then tried to install sound card (Opti Plug-N-play Sound system) with latest drivers and got a "!" in yellow dot for the ndis2 network adapter as shown in the Device Manager. The computer says the sound card was installed but no devices show up in the Device Manager. During bootup I also get messages like "network transport driver failed to load". When I try to reload the driver for Ndis2 the computer says that the latest driver is already loaded even after I insert the win98 disk.... Is my sound card defective? how do I fix the ndis2 problem? any advice would be appreciated. thanks, Joe

If you're getting an error message for a network adapter, you need to install the drivers for your Ethernet card. Go to www.belarc.com and download Belarc Advisor. Install it and run it to see which brand of Nic card you have. Then install the proper drivers.

Sometimes sound cards cause IRQ conflicts with other devices. I'd try moving the Network adaptor card to another slot (sometimes closest to the legacy card slot works best .. if you have one). Then Windows should see a New Device and reconfigure the drivers for you.
