My startup/shutdown splash screen has suddenly changed to a red white and blue little running man is what it vaguely looks like? Its very blocky as if it might be an Icon that was enlarged to fit the screen. Did I pick up some spyware??? I downloaded Ad Aware and ran it last night. I remove over 150 "objects." Some called Gator (which I never downloaded) some called Huntbar, some called Alexa (which I read is a windows thing), and three "possible browser hyjackers." I had it delete everything, but I still have that wierd splash screen. Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks!

or go to control panel, desktop themes and do it from there. or look thru c:\windows for logo.sys and logow.sys (these are the names of the startup and shutdown pics)right clcik and open with mspaint and see if they are the correct pics, if not then delete them after you go thru that directory and find the right pics. Then just rename the correct pics to logo.sys foir the startup and logow.sys for the shutdown pic

I forgot about show all files cos my system is set that way anyway, I never really did see much point in hiding files especially system files :/ Likewise my sytem is set to show files 1st in type then in name order, makes it a lot easier to find a file that the *standard* MS way.

Thank you everyone.

I can't find the picture of the little running man that is used as the splash screen so that I could change it. The normal logos.sys and logow.sys are the pictures that they should be. Though they do not show up on shutdown.

I have tried creating new splash screens and adding a logo.sys to the root directory and it won't show up. Only the little man shows up. (I was careful to follow directions to make sure the pictures where the right size and 256 colors etc...)

I read in a separate message that there is actually more than one place where logo's are stored, but I can't find the message again.

I know this is not a big deal but it is annoying!

Ok lets have another go

right click on an empty area of your desktop and select properties from the menu

then select the background tabtry changing the background pic used for yur wallpaper temporarily, reboot then change it back to what you want.

Then go to control panel, desktop Themes and load one of the standard themes, such as underwater.

reboot and see if this has got rid of your running man.
If it has then great, if not then let us all know so we can see what else we can do

The startup screen is either c:\logo.sys or is `inside' of io.sys. Do not delete io.sys. It is a system file.

I have fixed the problem. It seems that it was not actually the splash screen, but the background. It was actually set as the windows background, but I had a "picture" background that was set over it so the odd "running man" thing only showed up on startup and shutdown where you would normally have seen the regular green "windows background" that shows up before the background picture loads, making it look like a splash screen.

When I set background to "none" it disappeared. Then I reset my picture as background. Hope that made sense! Thank you everyone!
