My sound card thinks its 2 sound cards so if I want to play a wav file i have to select the first or if i want to play Midi i have to select the second. If i adjust the main volume nothing happens. Its gone insane please help it

remove the double entry in device manager

Just in case you don't know what the "device manager" is, I'll give a step-by-step breakdown of how to remove the extra entry: [1] Right-click on the "My Computer" on your desktop [2] Select "Properties" from the pull-down menu [3] In the window the comes up, select the "Device Manager" tab at the top [4] Double-click on the "Multimedia" entry [5] Click on one of the sound card entries (there should be two identical ones--select one of the two) [6] Click the 'Remove' button.
