My pc won't shut down, go into DOS or log off!!

For some reason my pc won't log off, shut down, or go into DOS. I've tried making shortcuts on the Desktop, but I get the message - error in shell32 missing entry:SHExitWindowsEX. Also, when i do try DOS, i'm told one of my programs is running - which it isn't!! Can anyone help?? Thanks.

Your shortcut problem may be due to a missing Windows Desktop Update -- requiring reinstallation or upgrade of Internet Explorer.
But your shutdown likely has other causes. What exactly happens when you try to shut down? Does it immediately return to the Desktop? You may have the Mine Trojan which affects both shutdown and restart in ms-dos mode.

RUN MSCONFIG, go into *advanced* and make sure DISABLE FAST SHUTDOWN has a tick in the check box beside it. Sure thang.

RK. I think you're right - I do not have msdos98.exe or uninstallims.exe. Also, when I do try to shut down, restart or log off, the screen flashes and returns to desktop! I've scanned for trojans and found Phaze and The Thing. I've removed them - now what do I do?? HELP!!!!!
