I have a 2 year old Acerview54e monitor with a trident 9680 video card. It recently went dark, I am unable to increase the brightness. I would welcome any suggestions. Thanks

If you can't brighten it with the brightness control, the monitor or the trident might be bad. What resolution were you running? The wrong resolution will ruin a monitor. Change the video driver to Std VGA which doesn't use the trident and see if that helps.

Try changing the refresh rate, right click on desktop, goto propeties> settings> advanced> adapter.

You mean setting the resolution too high? Would you consider 800x600 a safe value? Seems to me what matters is the scan rate and the refresh rate and the ability of the monitor to sync on it

Howdy, Well it is either a bad video card our your monitor is dying. Having them both tested is going to be the only way to find out what is wacky.

I meant refresh rate, sorry. Too much to remember, so many settings, not enough time, a diet of junk food and no sleep.......

Actually too high a resolution can damage the monitor as well. No, 800X600 isn't too high. I personally think that the monitor is at fault. I just took my girlfriends 17" Samsung in for the same symptom. It was "repaired" under warranty but now is too bright to be adjusted properly. Back it goes.

Anyhow, your monitor should still be under warrany at 2 years old. I think most warranties run 3 years for defects as long as you deliver it or pay shipping to the authorized depot.
