I have a lexmark x73 usb printer, but i have tried to installed and i get a sound voice from my pc, saying that my printer won't print. : ( I spend alot of money for this piece of #%&*@ I try everything i can, even downloading the file's from their web page, but the same CrAP, it dosen't work, and i still get the same freaking sound saying to me: "Trouble communicating with the printer. PLease some one...Show me the light!!

Read the directions. Installing a USB Lexmark printer is different from installing a normal Lexmark printer. I was ready to pitch mine out the window too!!! Until I went back and read the step by step instructions and followed them exactly for my Lexmark USB Z12 printer. Now it works fine. And even on the first install it printed but no little man telling me stuff like: printing started, or problem communicating with printer and so forth. After I read directions all is fine now.

I have had this problem too.
So, you have to follow the setup instructions! Carefully! First, disconnect the USB-cable. When setup sais: "Please, connect the USB-cable with your computer", connect it. After finishing setup, restart. It will work.
But if you install it wrong, with connected cable, and then you reinstall it right,.. perhaps it won't work! I've had this problem under win2k.
I've reinstalled windows, and installed lexmark right, and then, it worked!
Good luck!

Are you trying to network your USB Lexmark X73 and make it work?! If so, I share some of your frustrations.
I had no big problems getting X73 working under Win 2000 Professional standalone but somehow has never been able to get it working for my other Win 98 computer (Hooked up through a LinkSys router). I got exactly the same little man saying "Problem in communicating with the printer....". I am still trying everything I can.
Hopefully, somebody out there in the Net can share with me the secret to get Lexmark X73 networked and shared successfully please!

I am having same problem with networking x73 printer. I have tried several things and feel now as though I am running in circles. I know it has to be possible. I too have network setup behind linksys router. Does anyone have a fix for this? Please!!!

I am having the same problem with my Z12... up until I found this message board, I had no idea. I have, however, reinstalled the thing enough times that I don't know if it will work if I do it once again, but I guess I have to try... god, someone please drop me a line if this gets worked out! I need hellllp!

My Lexmark X73 and Iomega External Zip Drive were working fine with WIndows 98. When I installed Windows 2000 Professional, the USB ports would not work. The lady @ Lexmark Inc. informed me there is Microsoft Service Pack 1 I needed to install (evidently Windows 2000 has a problem reading USB ports for Lexmark printers). I installed both pack 1 and 2. Still the same problem; not able to print.
I finally decided to take the CPU and printer back to the university campus where I purchased the volume licensed Windows 2000 Professional version. The technicians will look at it later this week; however, they did inform me that they have seen this problem before with Lexmark X73's. They had some discussions with Lexmark and ended up swapping the X73's for the X83's.
I hope this helps some of you all and I can get my printer to work when I get it back.

I am having the same communication problem. When I installed the Lexmark X73 and got everything to install right it worked for a couple of days and then I noticed that my printerAMUSB setting under device manager dissappeared and then my computer (Presario 5000 series 5003US w/ Windows ME) detected it as an unknown device that couldn't communicate with my computer. I even tried to set a restore point when the printer was working and set up right but it failed to restore the system settings and my X73 is still not working. I even tried getting the driver from Lexmark but that failed too. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
