Yes, you heard me correctly. I'm not just another computer illeterate person that doesn't know how to use their computer. I'm actually a first year Computer Engineer. Anyways, I'm getting this really weird problem with my mouse. When I go over my icons, they re-arrange themselves. Now if I turn off "auto arrange" then they just move across the screen. It's literally like they're running from my mouse. Any suggestions, I have no clue on where to begin with this problem? That's why I came here. :)
Thanks,
Justin F.

If it was shorting wouldn't it affect other programs as well? It just seems to be my desktop icons, not any explorer icons, or control panel icons. By the way guys I'm running Windows 98, it's a fresh install, no viruses, and it's a cordless logitech mouse.

As mentioned in the previous version of this topic, where the person believed their machine to be virus free after reinstalling windows, go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/ and run an on line virus scan - this will pick up a selection of viruses that cause this problem and are not found by "regular" local virus checkers.

I agree with Try this to run an online virus scan. Your computer may be infected with a virus. Check out the Symantec link below my name(Homepage:) for a virus that describes moving icons(with a picture). Hope this helps and here's the link also.

To run an anti virus program would be the first to do.
And you said you are a first year Computer Engineer ?

odds are the joke program or virus is using an executible to power such mayhem hit control alt delete and kill all unfamilliar processes then you can go about expunging the nusiance without everything scattering at your approcah

Could it be somebody installed a prank from http://lizardworks.com/pranks.html on your system?

At last someone with the same problem. My PC started doing exactly the same today. (Win98 SE). It only affects the Desktop.

Mick Peach, Read Responses #3 & #4 . I'm fairly certain your computer is infected with a virus.
