Well, where to start? I had somewhere near 1gb of files in the My Documents folder, ranging from letters, to pictures of my coin collection, to Star Trek LCARS graphics that took hours to design. They were all there yesterday, and earlier today. I've done nothing that would have deleted them (and neither did anyone else to my knowledge.) I'm a computer technician by profession... I know I didn't delete them. But, neverless, they are gone, and Restoration (an undelete program) has NO record of the files having been deleted. The only major thing I've done today is install a new DVD-ROM drive.
So, what happened to the files? Hacking? I don't think so, I'm behind a hardware firewall. No one else (to my knowledge) has touched my machine, so what's up? Did they get moved? Nope, I searched the hard drive for several of the files... they're gone!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
Patrick

Check the properties of your my documents folder using Windows Explorer. It the my documents folder was inadvertantly deleted, Windows would make a new folder and it would have a date/time of earlier today and would be empty.
If that's the case, you could possible go to the root of c-drive and check for the deleted my documents folder. If found, you could probably recover it but would have to rename it to something else temporarily. Just a thought.

Found it all... it had been deleted, and many of the folders/files were renamed. I used a freeware program, Restoration, to find the files. Now for the long restore process........

The same thing happened to my husband's computer. He had been to a couple of websites yesterday and now this morning, his whole My Documents folder was empty. When he checked the properties for the folder, it had been created yesterday morning while he had been searching the net. The Restoration software he is using was found at http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlrestoration.html. Good luck!
