I'm running win98se and IE 5.5. Never had a problem - until today. When running IE, if I click on a link, another instance of IE appears in the task bar across the bottom. Similar to "Open in New Window" command but it's truly NOT another browser window because there ISN'T another window open! Just another tab in the task bar.
Even if I click on the BACK button, it doesn't go back in the same window - ANOTHER tab appears in the task bar. If I click new (or BACK) links I get a new instance (tab)EACH time. When I click on these in the task bar nothing opens. It's like they're not really different browser windows but just task bar tabs!
After a few minutes of browsing my task bar is filled with many instances of "open", fake browser tabs.Anyone ever hear of this happening??
Need help, please,

Sounds like a spyware program or virus at work. For the former I suggest downloading Ad-Aware from lavasoft; for the latter, housecall or the Norton online virus scan. (Can be found at www.symantec.com.)
Good luck...

Open Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>
one click Internet Explorer, hit add/remove
button. From here you click on repair
button. See if this helps and let us know
either way, please.

Thanks goes out to Dave M & dc.
I tried scanning for viruses first but nothing turned up. I then tried dc's suggestion and went with the "repair" button.
This did the trick. I don't know what was repaired but something got fixed. It now works fine. Thanks, again.
I love this place!
