Multicoloured stripe screen after bootup

I recently formatted my friends computer and loaded everything back on, I booted the machine up every day for a week and it was working perfectly.

When he took it back home he phoned me to say that when he boots up he gets a multicoloured stripe screen (no desktop window)any suggestions for this problem?

Have him scan for a virus, and or check his monitor.

Something may have come loose as well in transport from your house to his.

I'ts the monitor cord...

Tell him to chk connections...then turn monitor off and on etc etc...
