i want to insert page numbers into my thesis.after looking thro' the help section,still cannot insert as 'page numbers' doesn't appear in the drop down menu.anyone help.......please!!!????...thanks

In my version of Word (Office 97), when you're in a document you should have Insert as a drop down menu choice. Go to that and page numbers should be one of the options that drop down.
