I can't send files through MSN to other people that are oustide the network. We have a LAN set up at home with 4 computers on it. We use MSN to chat. I've checked to see if I have a firewall, but there isn't one. Yet, I still can't send files outside the network. I have a DSL connection to the internet, which connects to our router. I was wondering how I could get my MSN to send files.

MSN has a file size limit. I don't remember off the top of my head what it is, but it isn't very big.

MSN says it's to cut down on bandwith usage.

Get a real ISP. Microsoft is not doing you any favors.

Oops, I meant MSN messenger ( to send instant messages and files ). That's what's giving me trouble. It says I have a direct connection to the internet through it, and that I don't have a firewall. Yet, it also tells me that the files can't be sent because they're blocked. I remembered changing a setting somewhere in Windows that allowed me to send files through MSN messenger, but I don't remember exactly what setting.

What router do you have? Some routers have to be configured to allow file transfers using MSN messenger.

Go to the Linksys site, and then the support pages and choose the Knowledge base. Then just do a search for MSN Messenger. Before you try their solution, make sure you have the newest firmware for the router. Oh and make sure you are trying to send/receive files with someone that has the same version of messneger as you. If you are trying to transfer files with someone using Win XP,and Windows Messenger not MSN messenger, the file transfers won't work. You could always call Linksys tech support and have them walk you thru the steps, but make sure the firmware is the newest because thats the first thing their going to ask.

Well, I've actually landed on another solution... i found out that MSN Messenger can't work fully with a DHCP system. So, I went to my router and disabled it, and now everything's fine! I can send files anytime I want now! Thanks for all the help!
