Does anyone know how to get rid of MSN from my desktop?? I also have an empty folder that can't be opened and just sits on my desktop that is annoying me. There is no delete option for either. Isn't there registry settings I can tweak to get rid of it?? Or is there another way... please help!!

GO get TWEAK UI, its free! It will remove Network Neighborhood and MSN icons from your desktop.
You can get it a Download.com, Microsoft.com/windows95, and many other free download sites.

Charlie, Daisy, Mike, Rich;
The MSN icon is VERY annoying! Go to the following key using "regedit" from start/run (for win9x and NT).
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace].Step through the subkeys until you find the key representing the MSN icon (or the icon you want to remove). After you delete the key the icon should go away.
Good luck.

Thanks Brad,
This does work but you do have to restart after you delete the key.
No More Evil MSN Icon! :-)

I don't want MSN to be my browser page upon logging on to my internet service!!! Can't get rid of it. I want my earthlink page as my default browser. HELP!!!

After switching to earthlink I still have MSN on the desktop & bar plus every 60 seconds during internet access MSN asks me for my old name/passwd. Windows can't uninstall because add/remove has no references. Help!

Can't get the "free month" folders and files out of Programs! Help----It is good, but of course MS wants to take over every operation and I just want these out of Programs!

How can i get rid of MNS entirely? I use aol and do not need any other. How do I get AOL tobe my default system??

Thanks Brad, I have been looking in the reg file but could not find the MSN icon. Works like a charm. PS You do not need to restart the PC, just right click the mouse on the desktop and click refresh and it is removed.

I found an article on the internet that shows me how to delete the annoying msn icon on my windows desktop.
Note you should backup your registry or have a way to "undo" system changes before you start.
(i didn't and i was lucky that it turned out fine)Here is how you'll delete the icon.
1) go to start menu and then click on run.
2 type in regedit
It will open into the windwos registry program
3) follow these directories: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\
4) when you get to the namespace directory, right click on its subdirectory: {88667D10-10F0-11D0-8150-00AA00BF8457} and press delete.
5) after confirming the delete, exit the registry editing program and go back to your desktop. Refresh the your desktop by pressing F5. Hopefully, the annoying icon will disappear. You should restart your computer.
Please understand that i am trying to help that and am not responsible any files lost or problems afterward. (It worked fine on my system so I think it sould work fine on yours')

Hey TC, I want to try that but if I do will I be able to use MSN. I just want to get rid of the desktop icon.

Thank you thank you thank you! TC and others who explained (in perfect detail) how to get rid of that annoying little MSN butterfly!!! I thought I'd get creative and reassociate it to something else, since MS insisted it "could not" be deleted..(don't EVER tell me something on MY computer HAS to stay there, just bc I was dumb enough to try out MSN!!) BUT I couldn't reassociate it or anything else...until now! I didn't back up my registry (I'm a BAD girl) but everything is fine now. Good karma to you!

Not only do I want the icon removed from my desktop, but I want all MSN files removed from my hard drive. I can get rid of it using the Add/Remove. But that isn't taking it off my hard drive. I need the space!!! Any help???

Thank you Brad and TC. worked great. I have spent hours looking for this kind of solution. The MSN site certainally is no help. They are getting worse every day.
