Hello everybody,

I have a serious problem that is persistent with all versions of msn messenger (4.6, 5.0, and even the new 6.0 beta). As soon as i sign in the message : "messenger has encountered an error while opening messenger" and it gives me 3 choices : DEBUG, SEND ERROR REPORT, DON'T SEND. when i click debug the "illegal operation" appears, Don't Send just shuts down messenger, send error report sends an error report and shuts down messenger. I don't know what to do and i really need msn and i like the new 6.0 version please help ASAP!!

Thanks in advance, coolhotboy4life

Happened to me...

1 - Make sure all the Windows Updates are up-to-date on your PC
2 - Uninstall MSN from the Control panel' "ADD & REMOVE" option
3 - Reboot your machine
4 - Download the MSN Messenger exe.
5 - Shut down all other programs runnin' (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and only keep the systray & explorer)
6 - Install it..

It worked for me... Let me know if it worked for you too..

Have you installed AOL? If so, that happened to me. AOL and MSN compete, and if you install AOL after msn, aol takes over.

Forget about the Updates for the time being. Try the rest first.
