For MSN Messenger to work Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 5.01 or later must be installed on your computer, though it does not need to be your default browser.
What version of MSN are you using, you might see if an older version will work if you don't care about all the extras. I still use MSN Messenger 1.0 by choice with Netscape on a Windows 98 machine that does not have an updated version of IE. It works fine for chatting but that's all. You can download older versions of MSN Messenger at OldVersion.com
