I'm tring to get my Microphone to work with MSN Messanger so that I can speak with others over the phone. I have AOL and a 56k dial-up connection. Windows 98se. I was able to hear someone speaking, but they could not hear me at all. Within MSN messanger under "Tools" their is the "Audio Tuning Wizard." When I ran it, the speakers worked but the microphone did not. Yet, the microphone is plugged, and is enabled under Window's "volume Controls." And, when I speak into the mic I can hear my voice through the speakers. So, what could be blocking the mic from working when I'm using MSN Messanger to speak with others?

I know nothing about MSN Messenger but are you absolutely certain the microphone is in the correct socket?
The reason I ask such a silly question is that it seems rather odd to me that you can hear yourself on the speakers. I would have thought you should only hear the other party.

That's actually a very good queation. I have been under the impression that the mic MUST have been in the right socket because I could hear my voice amplified on the speakers. However,I will now double check to see that it is in the right place. I will post back again.
Thanks!

Sure thing, it would be nice if it happens to be that easy.

Problem resolved! I checked and the mic is plugged into the right spot. However, there was a mixer program that was installed with the onboard sound driver suite that had the wrong setting by default for the mic. I played around with it and got things right.
