Whenever I try to access system info from
start/programs/accessories/system tools I
can't get into it. I get an error message
that msinfo32.exe performed an illegal
operation. I did a virus scan and it
detected a RBTG (or RBGT) bug, but I couldn't
clean it. Is it the bug that is not allowing
me access to system information, or is it
soemthing else?? If it is the bug, how do I
get a clean msinfo32.exe file? Any
assistance will be greatly appreciated.

What happens when you use the run box to launch it?
Start/Run, type: msinfo32, click ok.FYI: MSINFO is on your W98 CD, In .cab #41,
Use sfc to extract & replace it.
Learn about sfc here:

I get the same error when I try to run
msinfo32 from start/run too. My computer
came with a cd but it was my impression that
I should only use it for a complete restore,
which would reformat the entire hard drive to
it's original state when first purchased. I
really don't want to do that at this point
(yikes!) I ran system file checker and it
didn't show any problems.I used McAfee for my virus scan and it
notified me of that virus, but I couldn't
find any explanation of it on their website
either. Wierd. Don't know what it is -
maybe it's an abbreviation of some other
virus - who knows.Thanks for

If this happened in the last few days,
boot to dos, type scanreg & replace the registry with an earlier version prior to it happening. The default is setup to keep copies for 5 days.
Run Scandisk as well.
I will put a copy of msinfo32.exe on my download page if you like.Since it's not a system file you can replace it while in Windows, without having to use dos.

I'm using dual operationg system (Windows 2000 and Me). When I clicked on System Information under "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.exe", it's giving the following error message: A required .DLL, MFC42U.DLL was not found. When I copy that file from WINNT folder and I clicked back again, the following message appeared: The file cannot be loaded on Windows 95/3.1. It takes advantage of Unicode features only avaialbe on Windows NT. How to fix? Please help me.
