Just installed Win98SE. Everything runs fine. But after the installation of winoncd 3.6 including the newest servicepack, the msgsrv32.exe doesn`t respond after booting so that I have to close it by the taskmanager.
Does anybody got an idea ????

Sven,
go to:

I just saw a similar problem on another BB. Seems it has to do with power management. You might have to do alittle looking around as this page is the 'header' to get you started. Hope this helps.

Sven,
Here is an MS paste that will explain what msgrv32.exe does; and at the bottom an MS link which may relate to the cause/cure of the problem (possible conflict with sound card)

Msgsrv32.exe is a program that runs invisibly on the Windows desktop and performs several background functions necessary for Windows operation. These functions include:

Mediate Plug and Play messages among various parts of the operating system.

Coordinate automatic responses to Setup programs. This includes checking whether a Setup program has improperly overwritten Windows files, and optionally restoring the Windows versions of those files.

Display the initial logon dialog box if networking is enabled.

Play the system startup and shutdown sounds.

Load installable Windows drivers at startup and unload them at shutdown.

Run the shell program (usually Explorer.exe) and re-run the shell if it fails to respond.

try running the win98 tool :
system information, tools, system file checker.
you may have overwritten such like mfc40.dll etc etc and restore as appropriate from the cd.

Sven,

You need to download and install the fix i.e. 8330v52.exe file; its just 126Kb file. You can download CMI web site. http://www.cmedia.com.tw/

Go to their FAQ page then click 8330. Read the question # 9 for instructions and details. If you have any problems in downloading the fix, please let me know. I will give you another site address for the fix.

This fix will work but 'DON'T DELETE THE JOYSTICK FILES! THEY ARE NOT IN THE 8330v52.exe FILE!'

If you want a quick fix then try this: Open your multimedia settings in the control panel and set the preferred playback device to SB16 playback (220). then set your record device to SB16 Record (220). restart the computer. This will fix your error message from SR32 but I believe you will lose the full duplex functionality. Good luck.

My computer freezes up all the time, and if I just wait, it starts up again after a few seconds. When I hit ctrl/alt/del, it says "msgsrv32 not responding". I am running win95. What can I do to fix this?

The machine I'm having the problem with does not have a sound card, nor is it related to power management. Msgsrv32.exe freezes when the user tries to print from Groupwise. I removed Windows messaging, then reinstalled Groupwise. Groupwise reinstalls Windows messaging on installation. The problem still reoccurs when trying to print from Groupwise. Powr management has been disabled. Any suggestions?

Msgrv32.exe freezes on me whenever I try to write a large file/directory structure to my cd burner. As with Doug, it's not sound card nor power management related. It's very frustrating because all I'm producing are coasters -- no usable CDs.
