I had a problem with W98, when I started the computer, the system just freezes. I had always the same message "msgsrv32.exe doesn't ..." . I founded the problem: I put the program stimon.exe (scanner, digital camera appl.) on disable (W98 System Menu) and there is no error anymore. But the question is ... What is exactly the function of this program ?
thank you !

Hello

Msgsrv32.exe is a program (Windows 32-bit message server) that performs several background functions necessary for Windows operation

These functions include:

1.Load installable Windows drivers at startup and unload them at shutdown
2. Run the shell program (usually Explorer.exe) and re-run the shell if it fails to respond
3. Mediate Plug and Play messages among various parts of the operating system
4. Coordinate automatic responses to Setup programs. This includes checking whether a Setup program has improperly overwritten Windows files, and optionally restoring the Windows versions of those files
5. Display the initial logon dialog box if networking is enabled
6. Play the system startup and shutdown sounds

Usually these messages appear on shutdown. Here are some more common errors and their causes:

Thank you for your answer. My question wasn't so clear but I thought : what is the function of "stimon.exe" ? ...

No, the sound chip is OK. It's just "stimon.exe" who activates the problem with "msgsrv32.exe". If you take it from "Windows98 Start" back, it's work !

thank you

This is not a direct response, but might help you a little bit. stimon.exe (Still Image Monitor) is necessary for the operation of certain scanners. When it became unchecked in my msconfig, my scanner would not work until it was restored. USB scanners do not appear to need stimon. My scanner is a HP 5200Cxi with a parallel port connection and requires stimon.

Stimon may be corrupt. I would delete this Windows file and replace it from the windows disc or take it from a working computer.

Let me know if this helps.

I get the stimon error on my webcam and its says it has performed and illigal function and the only option is ok to shut it down. I did the fix from microsoft and this is what I get. When I shut it down, I can't use my webcam. Any ideas?
