I just tried downloading an unoffical update for Windows 98SE its the unnoficial special pack v.1.5 found at http://www.win31.cjb.net the sep15.exe
Now i cant boot up windows all i keep getting is:Microsoft Registry Checker
Backing Up Registry Files--->
Restoring System Files-->You have restored a good registry
Windows found an error in your system and restored a recent back up of the files to fix the problem please restartthen after restart the message just repeats.
I emailed the owner he suggested i goto MSDOS.SYS and set the systemreg=0 how do i do this? and what will it do?

You should stick to (one of) your original postings.
To make things easy for you here, copy the text below between the double lines into notepad and save it as BOOTEDIT.BAT. Then run it and make your changes. Then reboot. (The addition should go under the [Options] section.)
Bootedit.bat
=========================================================
@ECHO OFF
C:
CD\
IF NOT EXIST \WINBOOT.SYS GOTO 7
IF EXIST \WINBOOT.SYS GOTO 6:7
ATTRIB -H -R -S \MSDOS.SYS
EDIT \MSDOS.SYS
ATTRIB +H +R +S \MSDOS.SYS
GOTO END:6
ATTRIB -H -R -S \MSDOS.W40
EDIT \MSDOS.W40
ATTRIB +H +R +S \MSDOS.W40:END
exit==============================================================

Before i tried this i tried scanreg/fix it said it restored my registry.
Then the desktop background come on it reinstalled my usb 2 card and webcam drivers. Then a explorer message came up where i pressed cancel it just showed the background color!. Now even when i loads up safe mode i get the explorer error message then just the safe mode background! I can run anything inside windows! Help!
Also just before this happens in safe mode i get:
System File Warning
The following system files have been replaced with older versions by a program you recently ran. Some windows functionality may not run correctly with these files installed.Please restore these files by running windows setup located on your original windows disks to verify current installation
c:\windows\system\winaspi.DLL

well after another registry/restore my system in now working. But the owner of this site said i should download the program again to fix the:
c:\windows\system\winaspi.DLL
Question is if everything is working and this program messed it up in the first place then do i really need to??

I'd stay away from it. It obviously hasn't been tested thoroughly for all possible scenarios/configurations.
