Hi people,

I am trying to run a old ms_dos game in windows 98 SE. It runs okay but everytime I click a function to proceed in the game, MS-DOS finishes.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Also how do I free up conventional memory in DOS. I have tried c:\windows\emm386.exe NOEMS and ON. but it always comes up with Illegal option.

windows needs ems memory. goto help and type pif file and it will give instructions. I dont think that the emm386 route will be your answer though. The program you are running is probably trying to access the video directly or some other odd problem. They can be difficult to diagnose sometimes. Try to run the prog. in a window insted of full screen. Many time that is all it takes. Also while in help type freeing conventional memory for more info. Sorry I cant give more direct answers but Im in 2000 right now and it is doing something so I cant get to 98 help.

Get a Windows 95 OSR2 boot disk from bootdisk.com (this one is compatible with fat 32 and is easy to use with dos games. If you play from CD drive get one configured for access to the drive.Boot the PC and find the directory (to play from c for instance):
cd\ (press enter)
c: (press enter)
cd folder (press enter)
file.exe (press enter)
To play with sound, add the set blaster line to your autoexec.bat

Exit to dos and run the games. Also emm386.sys has to be in config.sys. You can't run it as a command from a dos prompt.
