HELP! here's the skinny: I came home yesterday and my computer had crashed, i had to hard reset to get it going again. I run a Dell P100, w95, 82mb ram, a 1.2gb HD as C: and a maxtor 5.2gb partitioned with their ez-bios (max blaster) program into 3 sections D: E: F:.... the problem i have is that win95 is running E: and F: in "MS DOS compatibility mode". under the performace tab of sys properties, it says "compatability mode paging reduces system performance" and the D: E: are in MS DOS mode. more info only tells me there is a driver (win95 cannot specify which) causing this. nothing has been changed in the last day or so... note: E: and F: are under drivespace 3. after trying to debug, i got w95 to tell me there was an error on E: and to run scandisk, so I did and corrected the error, but i can't resolve the MS-dos comp mode problem. the other thing that is odd, when this occurred, i noticed i now have a B: floppy registering, which is not there. it is not in the bios for B: and when I am in safe mode, it is not there. here is a list of errors in my bootlog:
loading vxd = ndis2sup.vxd
loading failed = ndis2sup.vxd
loading vxd = vshare
loading failed = vshare
DEVICEINITFAILED = MTRR
INITCOMPLETEFAILED = VSCSIPWR

HELP!!!!!!!!!! because of this ms-dos compatible mode, it has temp put e: f: back to short filenames which really screws everything up... please post a reply here, since i don't think i can get my e-mail. thanks a lot....

You most likely need to reformat the drives that are running in compatibility mode. If they are not in the correct Win95 format, compatibility mode is automatically set. Restart your computer in DOS mode and type format E

I found a solution short quick one this !! When you boot up do so and keep pressing the F8 key to go to dos mode, at the bottom of the options page you will see a option" boot from previous DOS" select this and continue booting, this should allow you to reinstall 95 on the machine and correct the problem without having to format or backup.

Works for me, good luck !

I have had the same problem. I think it is caused by a "Realmode" driver, vide-cdd.sys which has something to do with enabling you to run the CD drive in dos mode. It only shows up in Device Manager in safe mode with me. Have a look in your sysedit to see if it is in the MSCD line.

These problems are caused by having run
a DOS program from Windows. In particular,
if you have BOOTLOG.txt "fail" messages,
run REGEDIT.exe and ctrl-F (search) for
the file that failed. Odds are you will

find ALL such files listed in
Explorer/doc find spec MRU
- in other words, the Most Recently Used list.
Since at boot time you are NOT (usually )
autorunning a DOS program, these files are
not needed, hence they are "failed." sigh!
Do not delete,replace, or worry - it is not
a problem.
