i am useing windows 98second edition. When i go to msconfig -- there startup-- in one box nothing is there just empty i want to delete that .. it is not showing which programe is that. how to find out which programe is that?

Hi
heres a link to an app that will let you delete the startup .
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
note: it installs itself into 'control panel'
as 'startup'.under hklm run tab, highlight & right click you can delete or disable just in case its important.

And if by chance, you have Spybot S&D installed. You can use it, to do the same.
Start spybot S&D, Mode, Check Advanced mode, click Yes, Tools, System Startup.
There's a help file, to help with this.
Just an idea ;-)

p.s. You could even go into the registry, and change it yourself...

Are you saying there is just a tick box with absolutely nothing written against it? If there is anything at all then let us know what it says.

If it's as Derek describes, I've seen that a few times. You need to run regedit and browse to Hkey_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion and look through the various folder entries beginning with 'run'--run, run-, run once, etc. Also check Hkey_Current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion and the 'run' entries there.
The blank line may be obvious or it may not be. When you highlight the RUN folder in the left column, the first line in the right column should be:
{default}. . . . . {value not set}
The rest of the lines in the right column should show the msconfig--startup entries. Any line (except the default) that isn't also an msconfig entry is probably the blank line. Right click on that line and choose delete. That should remove it.
