MS update lost

Comment:
I've installed an update from MS, KB904706, but while attempting to print my update history file from the same site my puter hanged. After reboot obviously the update no longer in the Registry. How can I redo the update because MS now confirms that it was successfully installed? I'm running 98SE. Can I change some or other update check point file/log on my puter or is that too risky?

Do this:
Go to normal Windows Update. Select Windows Update Catalog (bottom left). Select W98 and W98SE. Select Critical Updates & Service Packs. Switch to "Posted date".
Not far down there will be two KB904706 entries.
Select either the DX8 or DX9 version. It is important to get this right. If you are unsure then type dxdiag in the Run box and you will see the version number near the bottom of the main screen.
The download will be an exe file (you need to drill down the file structure that it saves to, so make a note of where it is putting it). Just double click the .exe file and it will install by overwriting.
Best avoid fiddling with update check point etc.

Thanks Derek, spot on, task accomplished. Plus newly found link saved because MS must be the worst site to surf :-) Much appreciated.
