Hi guys,
I've started Win 98 and at the first screen a message appeared and said: the file mprexe.exe has caused an illegal operation.
I couldn't see the icons of the desktop.
I've deleted the win directory and tried to reinstall win, but many CAB files didn't work. The win installation stopped at 28%. Win tried to correct these errors, but failed.
WHAT CAN I DO?????? All my PWL files are deleted and I don't have any program called tin time.

Boot to DOS, at c: prompt type "CD windows\spool" then type "del printers".
This will remove all printer files that may be causing your "MPREXE.exe" error. This will at least give you a start.

Mprexe.exe is the Multiple Provider Manager Executable and its function is to direct network requests. I have DSL with a NIC card so whenever my DSL software is running, mprexe.exe is also running in the background.
Your problem is likely to be a corrupted password list, which can cause crashes/problems with the kernel32.dll file. The solution, if this is the problem, is to go into c:\windows
and delete any files ending in *.pwl
Restart your computer, and the corrupted password file can no longer cause problems. Here's a web page devoted just to mprexe errors:
http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/ermprexe.htm

After loading an Adobe product from a Kodak DC 290 installation disk, the Windows 98 system fails to boot and hangs with a "MPREXE.EXE" GPF followed by a "MSGRVS32.exe" fault. Blue screen, no icons, cannot boot Windows normally. Can boot in safe mode, cannot reestablish normal Win98 even after reinstalling system, same error. What can I do besides these ideas other than clean the machine and start over?
