I downloaded and installed Quick Time 3.0 but when I went to a site that called for Quick Time, Netscape Communicator told me it wasn't installed (a 16-bit version was). It appeared not to be installing in the right place, so I manually specified the path to my Netscape Communicator. Since then, whenever I attempt to boot the PC I get the error messages that there was an error in MPREXE and the system will stop; when I click on Details, I get the message that MPREXE Caused an Invalid Page Fault in module
. The system hangs. Sometimes I am able to reboot using safe mode or the command line step-by-step, and sometimes not. HELP! I have uninstalled the QuickTime 3.0 software but the problem with MPREXE remains. I have replaced the three MPR files (MPREXE.EXE, MPR.DLL and MPRSERV.DLL) from another Win95 PC, in case these were corrupted, but the problem persists. What calls on MPREXE and how can I prevent it, and allow myself to boot successfully? Thanks for any help.

My experience with this had to do with a corrupted password. If you delete all the .pwl files from the computer, then restart that should fix your problem.

I had same problem - after installing QuickTime under Windows 95 (with IE5), same symptoms with mprexe.
Reinstalling Win95, IE5/OE5 didn't help.
Neither did removing password files (did that twice).
Seems that there's something sick within QuickTime.
I suspect problem lies in one or more system .DLL files which QuickTime replaces when it installs.

Dunno about the QuickTime association, but
just discovered this problem after upgrading
from a 450 to 550MHz cpu. I suspect it may
have some critical timing loop involved in
running the networking that it's supposed to
be doing that happened to show up at this speed.Slowing down to 500 allowed me to boot again,
and now it's back up to 550 & (whisper this)
working okay again.

Got the same problem after trying to "fix" Outlook 2000 using the install program...had to reinstall Win98!!!

I have not been able to find a version 3.0 of Quick Time to download. The Hyperstudio version I am using requires 3.0. All sites that I have found offer the latest version. I get the error message that 3.0 is required. Does anyone know where I can download 3.0?

I have win 98 and have found the problem not to occur on ver 2 only on ver 1. does anyone know where i can locate an update. I've tried all of the other solutions ie. *.pwl and have been unsuccessful.

I also had the same problem.
I had (and still have) QuickTime 3.0, IE 5, and Netscape. Unlike causing problem soon after boot time though, it will cause one at random it seems.Indirect fix was found at Microsoft website.
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q192/2/49.aspThis fix is not really for mprexe/qt, but it works anyhow. My problem went away after patching my Windows 95A with this fix.
Perry Boblow (Response #14) said this problem doesn't exist on Win98 Ver2, and he is right. MS put the patch in Ver2. Ver1 users still need the patch.

i am having the same problem(s), however mine affects windows start up... windows will NOT load... i can't getin to re-install/add fix, or anything.....my error refered to a kernel.dll file...
