Hello,

I have a question about MPR.exe and MSGSRV32.exe, at work we are running Win95 on Compaq Deskpro PC's with Intel NIC's. Every now and then I get a PC that wil get MPR.exe and MSGSRV32.exe not responding in task manager. It will do this if you try to log on and if you try and cancel through the logon, you can boot into safe mode. I have tried removing Mcafee, the NIC, and the Printers (someone said printers may cause problems) Most of the time I end up replacing the PC. Some times I can go in and remove the NIC and then it will boot but it still has problems getting it to boot corectly and the NIC will not install the wright way. Does anyone know how to fix these error or what causes them? I looked on the MS site and could not find anything really helpfull. Please help if you know a solution to the problem. Thanks.

Some Q articles to keep you busy from the Microsoft Knowledgebase:

Error Message: MPREXE Not Responding (Q178084)

Msgsrv32 Not Responding When Computer Hangs While Idle (Q169987)

1. What kind of power options are set on these 95 boxes?

2. Where are the users profiles contained? On the Domain or on the local boxes? If you create a clean profile for them, does it clear up the problem?

3. If you reload the NIC driver or reseat the NIC and reload the driver, does it clear up the problem?
