Mozilla email - can't send

Hello. I've been having problems with Mozilla email. I can RECEIVE email, but I can't SEND it. Get a message saying that "The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server ... failed". I've rung my IPS's support people, and they said I needed to put in my full email (not just the bit before the @) in ALL sections (which is odd, since the other email programs I'm using - Pegasus Mail and Phoenix Mail - just add this for me if it's required or tell me that I souldn't have put that there). Tried that. Still no joy. So ... I'd love to keep using Mozilla. I like the idea of one suite that does everything, and Mozilla is doing what I want (and starting faster than Firefox - at least on my system, go figure), except for this irritating little snafu. Anybody have any ideas?

As your ISP told you, your outgoing account name is your full email address. I've been using Mozilla exclusively for about six months, ever since OE crashed and gave me an excuse.
