I have instaled a new hard drive with my old hard drive as a slave. The CAB file on the new drive has only one file in it. The old file has about 100MBs including a file I need but can't get the programs instalation setup to access it. Can I simply copy the old CAB files to the new hard drives CAB folder?

You should be able to (backup the other first). But I am wondering why the new cab doesn't have the files it should (install problem? or was this preinstalled) Also which cab file is it and what is the file you need? Also again what program's install setup won't allow you to specify the cabs location.

If the new hard drive and the old hard drive have the same operating system, then the answer is yes. But if the new hard drive has a different OS, then the answer is no. To copy the CABS folder from the old hard drive to the new one, all you have to do is copy and paste. Be sure the path to the CABS folder is C:\windows\options\cabs. Go to the slave drive and find the CABS folder, usually it is under C:\windows\options\cabs. Copy the entire folder, the CABS folder, open the "C:" drive, open the folder OPTIONS, and paste the folder CABS in it. This will transfer all cabs from the old drive to the new one. After you do that, you can delete the CABS folder from the old drive. Good Luck.

Thanks so much, I had hoped all I had to do was copy and paste. I will give it a try and hope for the best. Or I'll be back! Thanks again
