Adapters are notorious for not working unless the adapter was purchased as a package with the device it is adapting.

I suspect that a driver is needed for using the USB mouse on the USB port.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

ham30 may be right.

Test the mouse and adapter on another PC.

Check BIOS.

Yes ...I had issue with a ps2 to serial adapter once and suspected the possibility...and win98 was the early usb so wondered about drivers...have found a possible driver to try later today..

is not my machine but may try on one of mine just to see if it auto's on newer..did think to look in bios but only found a toggle for the usb/ps2 keyboard unless it is not spelled out like KEYBOARD..will have another look...likely the suspect drivers

thanks...

If it comes to drivers, try MSMouse901.

thanks will google that

I installed MN9791 app from logitech which is for the 2button w/scroll optical usb mouse but when I looked in control/sys the drivers were not installed...I did the wizard and it found the driver and then ask if I wanted to install...I clicked next but it wanted to find Lhid98.inf which I could not locate...

there is no win/inf folder and the file is not found in win, sys, sys32, or the new logitech folder...the win98cd can not be found that came with the box..any suggestions

thanks for any

will go now in search of msmouse901
