Ever since I have had DSL I have a problem with my mouse pointer freezing while on the internet. I have no hardware conflicts and have started noticing that the mouse freezes when DSL connection seems to drop. My ISP won't help - says its my computer. Manufacturer won't help says its my DSL. I tried more memory with no luck. I have Win 98SE. I have winmodem software and a PS2 mouse. Any suggestion would be helpful.

See if the network card is using the same IRQ as the PS2 mouse. You might just want to try a Serial Mouse, if it still locks , it's probably a software problem. It it doesn't, it's probably a hardware conflict.

Have you installed a firewall? The first thing you see when you install one is that there are a lot of applications running in the background that try to access the internet without your knowledge. This might be what's overloading your computer and causing the mouse to freeze. You might want to use msconfig and remove everything from startup except system tray and your antivirus program. Then go on the internet for a while and press ctrl--alt--delete to see if there are any mystery programs running. Those could be the ones causing the problem.
