Is there a way to pinpoint what is wrong when a "Primary HDC failure" message pops up? I know it's the hard disk controller but does that mean the entire mother board needs to be replaced?

You dont need to replace the entire motherboard .You can just buy a super i/o card basically it is a motherboard on a card it has bunch of ports and a replacement hard disk controllers and other stuff but really just bye a new motherboard
unless its a p2 motherboard its not even a 100 bucks
