Im in the process of replacing my mother board and have run into one problem I cant find an answer to. I have a plug that fits on to the motherboard for HDD led reset. Here's the problem there are two sets of pins one 8 pins and the other 6 pins a space and 1 pin. The plug that fits onto it has 4 connections a space two connections and a space. Should use the top row with 8 pins or the bottom row with 6 pins a space followed by 1 pin. Or will it hurt the motherboard if I test them both out to see which works the best or if they work at all? Thanks, me2u

The proper connections are usually indicated on the motherboard by the pins. But you really ought to check the motherboard manual. Download one if you don't have it.
The LED's are diodes which means you have to observe the correct polarity for them to work. If you find the proper connection but the lights don't work, turn the connection around.

The LED will only work one way around, the reset switch will work either way. You could blow up your MoBo experimenting with the connections, you could get hit by a bus whilst crossing the road.
