Hi all,
Some time ago (June '04)I had this problem and was helped by DAVEINCAPS sending me screen shots. Those screenshots were lost when I temporarily lost my hotmail account. Now a friend of mine with a dual boot machine is having the same problem and I would like to help him out. He needs the dual boot because of his accounting package for his business. He only had 256 meg of RAM but just added a 1 gig stick and of course can no longer boot into Win98se. If I could get those screen shots I could give them to him to fix it up.
The url below is my original post.
Believe it or not he actually doesn't have an internet connection!!!

Thanks in advance for any help and I have learned copious amounts by coming to this forum! I didn't even realise I've been coming to this website for almost 2 years and usually visit a couple of times a week 'just for fun.' I know I probably should get a real life but hey.....

pre-read:
1.5 reboot and...
specify MaxPAEEnabled
Data type: Boolean
Access type: Read-onlyIf True, the Physical Address Extension (PAE) is enabled by the operating system running on Intel processors. PAE allows applications to address more than 4 GB of physical memory. When PAE is enabled, the operating system uses three-level linear address translation rather than two-level.
Providing more physical memory to an application reduces the need to swap memory to the page file and increases performance.
To enable, PAE, use the "/PAE" switch in the Boot.ini file.

I uploaded those to driverguide. Here's the link.

I've been kicking around on this forum since mid 99. I've learned many things but first and foremost is to respect what WhitPhil has had to say on topics of this sort over the years.
Heed his words.

Thanks a lot for the great replies!!
I may have opened mouth and inserted foot as my mate is bringing his box over here today for me to mod. Well I guess that's his worry if things go awry.
The basic game plan wll be to open the box and pull out the one gig stick. Boot into Win98. Make the change to the max cache setting. Shutdown. Add the RAM back and try to boot into Win98.
Thanks again for the help and info.
If any smoke comes out I'll let you know :)
And I'll let you know if it works.
Thanks again.
