2gb of 7gb is 28% free memory. Not so low.

I have been using my PC for just under 5 years and have only used 6.2gb on my C: drive. In C:\Program files alone I have 34,182 files in 2,012 folders.

What makes you think that you are limited to the 7gb hard drive? You should be able to get at least up to 32gb hard drive.

1st of all, you're confusing memory with hard drive storage space. You apparently have a 7GB hard drive & 5GB is used? 2gb is still a lot of space. You could probably recover more space if you take the time to "clean house" & dump any unused or outdated programs & files...make sure to empty your TEMP folder. It accumulates a lot of crap & "usually" ALL of it can be safely deleted.

If you need more storage space, you can either install a 2nd hard drive for storage, or since a new drive will probably be faster, you could "Clone" your current drive's contents & transfer them to the new drive. Your old drive could then be formatted & used as your storage drive, or just removed from the system entirely.

OR, you could leave your current drive as-is, & install a 2nd drive, then install WinXP on the new drive, thus creating a dual-boot system.

Personally, I'd go for option 3

There is no turning back, now that you've woken up the demon in me...

Ok let me put this in MB maybe its easier..

I checked out My Computer --> Performance

Memory: 256.0MB of RAM
System Resources: 44% free
File System: 32-bit
Virtual Memory: 32-bit
Disk Compression: Not installed
PC Cards (PCMCIA): No PC Card sockets are installed

Your system is configured for optimal performance.

Orginally i had only 64MB of RAM i updated the memory. I was told what i have now is the maxinum for my specific maschine.

You have 256 meg of RAM. The 7 gig/2 gig must be your HD space as mentioned above. If you right click on your c: drive in 'my computer' and choose 'properties' it'll show you your HD space.

No, don't right click on 'my computer'. Open 'my computer' and right click on the c: drive.

It'll show used space and free space. Looks like you have a total of almost 8 gig. The amount of free space left is what you'd be concerned about. If it looks to be getting full you may want to at least do a disk cleanup (start--programs--accessories--system tools) or even uninstall some software you don't need.

But the 256 meg of RAM, which is totally different than HD space, is more than enough.

"C Drive says 3.92GB
D Drive says 3.92GB"
for a total of 7.84GB on the hard drive.
So it is a 8GB hard drive. That's reasonable although not very large.

Ignoring the first two listed at Pricegrabber.com for instance. You see you should be able to get a drive less than 32gb for a pretty good price still.

Still need to know how much free space you are showing on the two partitions on that single hard drive.

Regards,
Bryan
